Preparing Emerging Scientists for Success: A Train-the-Trainers Workshop
This trainer-of-trainers workshop, funded by a grant from the National Institute of General Medical Sciences (R25 GM135022), is designed to prepare faculty and administrators to establish or improve instruction in critical professional skills, responsible conduct of research, and inclusion. The workshop is designed to assist individuals who teach others at levels ranging from undergraduates through faculty and professionals. This includes faculty required by their institutions and/or NIH or NSF training grants to provide instruction in RCR.
Participants will receive an entire curriculum on professional development, inclusion, and research ethics, including syllabi, PowerPoint slides, handouts for students, in-class exercises, cases for discussion, and an extensive bibliography. Copies of selected books on these matters, as well as an extensive binder of journal articles and other readings, will also be provided.
This workshop will take place June 6-9 at the San Diego, CA Courtyard Downtown. A schedule of the workshop, comments from previous attendees, and an application form can be found here: www.EmergingScientists.com.
Space is limited to 30 participants, and applications will be reviewed and accepted on a rolling basis until May 27, or until the limit is reached. Pairs of individuals from the same institution are encouraged to apply. The tuition is $250. Other conference expenses are covered by the NIGMS grant. Travel and housing costs are the responsibility of attendees.
