DOD FY23 Peer Reviewed Cancer Research Program (PRCRP)

The Department of Defense (DOD) has launched the Fiscal Year 2023 Peer Reviewed Cancer Research Program (PRCRP). This program provides funding to support innovative cancer research projects with the goal of making significant advancements in the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of cancer. The program is open to a wide range of research areas and offers various award mechanisms to encourage collaboration and innovation. All applications undergo a rigorous peer-review process, and the program is highly competitive. Researchers interested in applying should visit the DOD PRCRP website for more information.

See a synopsis of the seven award mechanisms under this program.

2023 LOI deadlines: May 25 or July 25 (depending on mechanism)
2023 full application deadlines: August 10, September 12, or September 27 (depending on mechanism)

NIH NOSI: Leveraging Glial Cells to Treat Addition

This Notice of Special Interest (NOSI) through the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) encourages studies to exploit the unique properties and functions of glial cells and develop strategies to mitigate Central Nervous System (CNS) damage due to acute or chronic exposure to addictive substances or therapeutic avenues for addiction treatments.

First available deadline: June 5, 2023

NIH Centers of Excellence in Genomic Science (RM1)

The Centers of Excellence in Genomic Science (CEGS) program establishes academic Centers for advanced genome research. Each CEGS award supports a multi-investigator, interdisciplinary team to develop integrated, transformative genomic approaches to address a biomedical problem. A CEGS project will address a critical issue in genomic science, genomic medicine, or computational genomics, proposing a highly innovative solution that would be a major advance. The research will entail substantial risk, balanced by outstanding scientific and management plans and very high potential payoff. A CEGS will focus on the development of novel technological or computational methods for the production or analysis of comprehensive data sets, on a genome-scale biomedical problem, or on other ways to develop and use genomic approaches for understanding biological systems or furthering the application of genomic knowledge, data, and methods towards clinical applications. Each CEGS will nurture genomics by facilitating the interaction of investigators from several disciplines. Along with its scientific goals, CEGS will also expand the pool of genomic scientists and engineers that can use and apply the novel methods, concepts, and knowledge developed by the CEGS by providing education and outreach experiences to scientists at all career levels.

Next deadline: June 23, 2023

NIH Science Education Partnership Award (SEPA) (R25)

The NIH Research Education Program (R25) supports research education activities in the mission areas of the NIH. The overarching goal of this R25 program is to support educational activities that encourage individuals from diverse backgrounds, including those from groups underrepresented in the biomedical and behavioral sciences, to pursue further studies or careers in research.

Next deadline: July 14, 2023

NIH BRAIN Initiative Fellows: Ruth L. Kirschstein National Research Service Award (NRSA) Individual Postdoctoral Fellowship (F32)

The purpose of the The Brain Research through Advancing Innovative Neurotechnologies (BRAIN) Initiative Fellows (F32) program is to enhance the research training of promising postdoctorates, early in their postdoctoral training period, who have the potential to become productive investigators in research areas that will advance the goals of the BRAIN Initiative. Applications are encouraged in any research area that is aligned with the BRAIN Initiative, including neuroethics. Applicants are expected to propose research training in an area that clearly complements their predoctoral research. Formal training in analytical tools appropriate for the proposed research is expected to be an integral component of the research training plan. To maximize the training potential of the F32 award, this program encourages applications from individuals who have not yet completed their terminal doctoral degree and who expect to do so within 12 months of the application due date. On the application due date, candidates may not have completed more than 12 months of postdoctoral training.

Next deadline: August 9, 2023

NIH Director’s Early Independence Awards (DP5)

The NIH Director's Early Independence Award supports rigorous and promising junior investigators who wish to pursue independent research soon after completion of their terminal doctoral degree or post-graduate clinical training, thereby forgoing the traditional post-doctoral training period and accelerating their entry into an independent research career. For the program to support the best possible researchers and research, applications are sought which reflect the full diversity of the research workforce. Individuals from diverse backgrounds, including those from underrepresented groups and from the full spectrum of eligible institutions in all geographic locations, are strongly encouraged to apply to this Funding Opportunity Announcement. In addition, applications in all topics relevant to the broad mission of NIH are welcome, including, but not limited to, topics in the behavioral, social, biomedical, applied, and formal sciences and topics that may involve basic, translational, or clinical research. The NIH Director's Early Independence Award is a component of the High-Risk, High-Reward Research program of the NIH Common Fund.

Deadline: September 6, 2023
