Core Facilities

The School of Biological Sciences supports various research facilities across the UCI campus. These core facilities house a wide variety of instruments and employ trained technicians that enable faculty and researchers to perform cutting-edge research. Some are also used for educational and training purposes.

Centers and Institutes

The School of Biological Sciences collaborates with many units on campus to help further research in important fields. Various centers and institutes bring together faculty in the pursuit of a common goal. Bio Sci manages a handful of School Centers and its faculty participate in the efforts of many centers on campus.

Initiatives

UCI’s Office of Academic Planning supports initiatives that apply innovative research, teaching and engagement across disciplinary boundaries to solve grand challenges. The School of Biological Sciences has played a significant role in starting several of these initiatives and turning them into established centers and programs at UCI.

UCI Nature

The University of California oversees an extensive array of natural reserves that are protected natural areas throughout California. UCI has three natural reserves that are part of the wider UC natural reserve system, as well as several other local sites. These sites are used for research, education, and public engagement.
